Douglas Alan Yule (innate February 25, 1947) is an American rock and roll musician (bass guitar, organ, guitar and drums likewise when singing), noted for existence the member of The Velvet Underground from 1968 to 1973.
Biography
Early career
Yule began swimming using various elastic around his native Boston in the 1960s. Within 1968, he was in the band known as The Grass Menagerie, along with Walter Powers and Willie Alexander.
Inside 1967, he met The Velvet Underground for the first instance. A band was from either New York, but incurred Boston additional welcoming, & played there typically. Doug Yule became the friend of the band, however he was there is no large fan of their music.
Joining the Velvet Underground
After Lou Reed fired bass player & multi-instrumentalist John Cale from The Velvet Underground inside 1968, Yule joined as Cale's replacement, swimming his number one gig sustaining a Velvets at October 4. He appeared at a third Velvet Underground album, The Velvet Underground (1969), on which he sang lead vocals on the ballad "Candy Says". Taking over the Velvet Underground
A competition (+ a intrigue of manager Steve Sesnick, who pushed Reed to "put on a show" against his better nature and severity), led to Reed's allowing a Velvet Underground when you took 1970, just as competition between Reed & John Cale experienced led to Cale's exit 2 years earliest. Yule, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker (who was briefly replaced by Yule's adolescent brother Billy Yule due to pregnancy) decided not to disb& a class action, and recruited Yule's friend Walter Powers to replace Reed. But, Morrison left a class action inside 1971, leaving sum control of the Velvets to Yule. Morrison was replaced by Willie Alexander on keyboards, and a band went on the road. By late 1972, the b& was practically Yule alone, and he get into the studio by using Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and two unidentified session musicians to record the go Velvet Underground album. A album, Squeeze, released within 1973, could be considered the Yule solo album - he wrote all the songs, sang the two & played virtually all instruments. a album became a debacle, two commercial message & critically, & has nearly disappeared from either the Velvet Underground discography.
Yule continued to play sustaining a band known as the Velvet Underground until May 1973, when he chose to disband the children permanently.
Post-1973
Fallowing Squeeze, Yule reunited by using Reed, swimming using him on the road & on the album ''Sally Can't Dance (1974), as well as joining the mainstream rock combo American Flyer. He appears in each Velvet Underground live albums released in the 1970s, Live at Max's Kansas City and Live 1969''. He guested in an Elliot Murphy album as well. When Western Flyer's 2nd album was freed around 1977, Doug Yule disappeared from music, becoming the furniture maker.
In the mid-1990s, Yule (who got moved to the San Francisco Bay arethe) returned to public life, giving a select few interviews & writing a obituary on Sterling Morrison, who died within 1995. He resumed a violin studies he'd abandoned inside his teens, began to record once again in 1997, and the song known as "Beginning To Get It" appeared on the compilation A Place To Call Home in 1998. He played a few concerts around 2000, and a survive album Live in Seattle was released within Japan in 2002.
Being discredited as a Velvet Underground member
Of all the captain hicks independent members of the Velvet Underground (Yule, Reed, Cale, Morrison, Tucker, & Nico), Yule is the one given less credits. A reasons can be that he didn't play in their classic debut album, + a fact that Squeeze is and so despised. But, Yule played in additional Velvet recordings than either Cale or even Nico & he was the major influence in the healthy of the albums he appeared on.
Yule was non involved in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when the Velvets were inducted, & he didn't join their reunion in the early 1990s. Squeeze is seldom counted as a "real" Velvet Underground album, numerous VU life history don't mention it in the least, & pack fresh reviews of it actually say anything all about the quality, upright that it international relations and security network't a proper VU album. To quote Yule, he has be "Lou's evil twin".
